  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 and 1/2 cups white granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: food coloring, sprinkles, or other decorations

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. If desired, add food coloring and mix until the desired color is achieved.
  7. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  8. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
