After the Betal flew away, Vikramaditya again ran towards the Shinshpa tree and carried the Betal hanging upside down on the tree on his shoulder. Meanwhile, Betal once again narrated a new story to the king and said –

Long time ago there used to be a city named Bhogavati. In that city there used to be the rule of Rupsen. The king had a great desire to get married. One day the king asked his parrot named Chintamani, “Tell me with whom I will be married.” The parrot said, “To Chandravati, the princess of Magadha.” After listening to the parrot, the king called an astrologer and asked the same question. The astrologer also gave the same answer to the king, which the parrot had given.

The princess of Magadha was also very keen to know about her future groom. The princess asked her main manjari, “Hey! Tell me with whom I will be married. Maina also told the princess about her marriage to King Rupsen. After hearing this, marriage invitations were sent from both the cities to each other, which was accepted. In this way King Rupsen and the princess got married. After getting married, the queen brought Maina along with her. The king got Manjari Maina married to his parrot and kept both of them in the same cage.

One day there was a lot of debate between myna and the parrot about something. Maina said angrily, “Men are sinners, cheaters and unrighteous.” Then the angry parrot said, “Women are greedy, liars and murderers.” The quarrel between the two increased so much that this matter reached the king. The king asked both of them, “What happened, why are you both fighting.” Maina quickly said that Maharaj, men are very bad and then started telling the story directly.

Years ago, a Seth named Mahadhan lived in Allahpur city. After many years of marriage, a boy was born in that Seth’s house. Mahadhan Seth brought him up very well. Even after getting good manners, Seth’s son grew up and started gambling. In gambling addiction, he lost all the money while gambling. Meanwhile, Seth died. Due to the addiction of gambling, neither the boy had any money nor his earning father, so the boy left his town and reached Chandrapuri town.

On reaching the new city, the boy met the moneylender Hemgupt. The boy told the moneylender about his father and started telling him a false story. He said that he was returning after making a big deal with the ship. At the same time there was such a strong storm in the sea that his ship sank there and he reached here safely. On hearing this, the moneylender allowed him to stay in his house. Meanwhile, Hemgupt Sahukar thought that this son of Seth could prove to be a good groom for my daughter. Immediately the moneylender got his daughter married to Seth’s son.

On hearing this, the moneylender allowed him to stay in his house. Meanwhile, Hemgupt Sahukar thought that this son of Seth could prove to be a good groom for my daughter. Immediately the moneylender got his daughter married to Seth’s son.

After giving a lot of hospitality to his son-in-law for a few days after the marriage, the moneylender sent his daughter away with a lot of money. The moneylender also sent a maid along with both of them. On the way, Seth’s son said to his wife, “Give me all the jewels. There are many robbers here. His wife did the same. As soon as he got the jewellery, he killed the maidservant and threw her into the well and also pushed his wife into the well. The girl started crying loudly. Hearing her cries, a passer-by pulled the woman out of the well.

As soon as she came out of the well, she went to her father. She didn’t tell the truth to her moneylender father, he said, “Some robber robbed them and killed the maid.” The moneylender comforted his daughter and said, “Don’t worry, your husband will be alive and he will definitely come back sooner or later.” On the other hand, the boy reaches his city and again loses all the money and jewelery in gambling. After the money ran out, his condition became very bad.

Troubled by this, the boy again goes to the moneylender. As soon as he reaches there, he meets his wife. She is very happy to see him and tells that whatever happened that day she has not told her father. She tells about that false story to her husband. As soon as the moneylender saw his son-in-law in the house, he welcomed him. After staying in the moneylender’s house for a few days, one night seeing an opportunity, Seth’s son kills his wife and runs away with all her jewellery. After telling this story, Maina says, “Maharaj, I have seen all this happening with my own eyes. That is why I call men sinners.

After listening to Maina’s story, the king says to the parrot, “Now you tell me why you were talking bad about women.” On hearing this, the parrot also starts telling the story. He tells that once upon a time he used to live at the place of a Seth named Sagardatta in Kanchanpur. His son’s name was Sridatta, who was married to the daughter of Seth Somdatta of Srivijaipur, a nearby town.

After marriage, the boy went abroad to do business. His wife Jayshree used to wait for him desperately, but 12 years passed, but he did not return from abroad. While waiting for her husband, one day the woman sees a man coming from her terrace. He likes her very much. She invites him to her friend’s house. She talks to him and asks him to meet her at her friend’s house everyday. Now Sridatta’s wife Jayashree started meeting that young man everyday. A few months passed by while this happened. Meanwhile, one day Jayshree’s husband Shridatta returns from abroad.

The woman gets upset seeing her husband. Tired Sridatta falls asleep as soon as he lies down on the bed to rest. Seeing the opportunity, his wife goes to her friend’s house to meet the young man. Seeing him going out at night, a thief follows him. He sees that she has gone to some house. Unfortunately, the young man dies due to snake bite. As soon as Jayashree sees him, she feels that he is sleeping. She goes close to him, at the same time the ghost sitting on the nearby Pipal tree enters the dead youth’s body and bites the woman’s nose and sits back on the tree.

Crying, she reached her friend and told her the whole story. Hearing everything, her friend advises Jayshree to go home quietly and start crying loudly. As soon as someone asks about the nose, tell them that your husband has cut it off. She does the same. The girl’s father complains to Sridutt. After this everyone appears in the assembly. As soon as the king sees the cut off nose of the girl, he angrily announces the decision to hang her husband from the cross.

The thief who had seen Sridatta’s wife going out of the house at night and other things is also present in that gathering. The thief is very sad on hearing the sentence pronounced by the king. He somehow musters up the courage to tell the whole story to the king. No one believes him, so the thief says, “You go over there and see, the ghost is there as well as the young man’s dead body.” When probed, it turns out to be true. Telling this, the parrot says, “Rajan women are so wicked.”

Having said this, Betal tells King Vikramaditya, “Tell me, who is more sinful, a woman or a man?” The king thinks for a while and says, “The woman is more sinful.” Betal says, “How?” The king replied, “Despite being married, the woman had eyes on other men and cheated on her husband.”

Moral of the story: One should never lie. The consequences of lying are always bad.
